Ústav je dobrovolným, nezávislým, nepolitickým sdružením, které sdružuje laickou i odbornou veřejnost v oblasti péče o osoby ohrožené drogou. Účelem Ústavu je pomáhat osobám ohrožených zdraví škodlivými návyky a vytvářet podmínky pro prevenci, léčbu, sociální a pracovní rehabilitaci. Za tím účelem Ústav: a)vytváří a uskutečňuje program ambulantní psychoterapeutické péče, ve kterém nabízí: rodinné terapie skupinové terapie individuální terapie dětský klub rehabilitační tábory (zimní, letní) a víkendové pobyty pro děti z rodin závislých dlouhodobé i jednorázové preventivní programy pro žáky základních a středních škol (prevence zneužívání návykových látek a širší prevence sociálně patologických jevů) b)poskytuje odborné sociální poradenství dle zákona č. 108/2006 Sb., o sociálních službách, c)působí na veřejnost při prosazování správného přístupu a tolerance k osobám ohrožených drogou a informuje o problematice duševního zdraví, duševní nemoci a drogové závislosti, d)sdružuje a spravuje prostředky, určené pro pomoc rodinám ohrožených drogou a účelně s nimi nakládá v souladu se svým posláním a zaměřením, e)iniciuje vytváření oblastního systému péče o osoby ohrožené drogou f)poskytuje vzdělávací programy a podílí se na výzkumné činnosti v oblastech uvedených v písmenu a)
