Giving in Czech Republic

How the charity sector is regulated, what kinds of nonprofits operate, and how to evaluate them.

Charities and nonprofits in the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic has a varied nonprofit sector built around spolky (associations, formerly obcanska sdruzeni), nadace (foundations), nadacni fondy (endowment funds), obecne prospesne spolecnosti (public-benefit companies, now mostly converted to institucionalni ustavy), and church-affiliated ucelova zarizeni. The sector is active in social welfare, health and rare-disease support, education, environmental protection, disability inclusion, and civil society and human rights advocacy. Whether you are searching for a comprehensive list of Czech charities, a spolek register lookup, a nadace directory, or a single verified Czech nonprofit to donate to, GiveRadar consolidates official Justice Ministry registration data, financial information, news coverage, and an independent integrity score for every Czech nonprofit. Read about how GiveRadar works before you give.

How charities are registered in the Czech Republic

Czech nonprofits register in the public registers maintained by the regional courts under the Civil Code (89/2012). Spolky register in the spolkovy rejstrik, foundations and endowment funds register in the nadacni rejstrik, and institutional bodies register in the rejstrik ustavu. Every nonprofit receives an IC (identification number) and is fully searchable on the Justice.cz public-register portal. Public-benefit (verejne prospesnost) status was introduced as a formal designation under the Civil Code reforms but has been adopted by relatively few organizations. Tax-exempt activity status follows the Income Tax Act, and donations qualify for personal-income-tax deduction when made to specified causes (science, education, culture, health, social welfare, environmental protection, etc.).

How to evaluate a Czech charity before donating

Czech nonprofit transparency is solid for registered foundations, but the spolek sector is large and uneven. Things to check before giving to any Czech charity:

  • Justice.cz register entry: every legitimate Czech spolek, nadace, or institute appears on the public register.
  • Verejna prospesnost designation (where applicable): a governance signal for organizations that have adopted the formal status.
  • Audited annual reports: larger Czech foundations and humanitarian NGOs publish detailed Czech GAAP statements.
  • International partnerships: partners of the EU, UN agencies, USAID, or major Western foundations have usually passed vendor due-diligence checks.
  • Sanctions and watchlists: use our free charity checker tool to cross-reference every Czech nonprofit against OFAC, EU, and UN watchlists automatically.

Each Czech nonprofit profile on GiveRadar combines registration, financials, governance, and third-party signals into a single 0-100 integrity score. Read our integrity score methodology for the full weighting.

Czech Republic charity explorer: browse, filter, compare

This page works as a Czech charity explorer: every registered Czech spolek, nadace, and institute we hold data on, ranked and filterable by region (kraj), cause area, financial transparency, presence of a website, and size. Use the filters on the left to narrow by category (humanitarian, health, children, environment, civil society, disability, religion, advocacy, and more), and the search bar to find a specific organization by name or IC. The directory updates daily as we ingest new registration data and enrich existing records with contact details, financials, programs, and news coverage. To compare Czech giving against other markets, browse all countries or jump straight to international charities globally.

Donating to charities in the Czech Republic

Most Czech nonprofits accept card, bank-transfer, and QR-code donations directly through their websites or via platforms like Darujme.cz and DonioCZ. Czech individual donors can claim a personal-income-tax deduction of up to 15% of the tax base (with temporary increases under recent crisis legislation) on donations to specified causes. Companies can deduct gifts up to 10% of taxable income. International donors typically give cross-border via Transnational Giving Europe or GlobalGiving. GiveRadar links to each nonprofit's official donation channel where available and flags fundraising pages that look unverified. For a structured donor walkthrough, read our donor due-diligence guide.
