Účelem ústavu je: - zejména prostřednictvím učitelů významně přispět ke kulturní změně ve školách a tím podpořit rozvoj vzdělávání především v Česku, - podněcovat a aktivně vytvářet prostředí pro kolegiální sdílení všech pedagogických pracovníků a umožnit tak dětem a učitelům zažít skrze radost z poznávání i radost z učení. Předmětem hlavní činnosti ústavu je: - zřizování, vedení, podpora a koordinační činnost regionálních center a platforem zejména pro učitele a další pedagogické pracovníky mateřských, základních a středních škol, - celoroční i jednorázové vzdělávací (akreditované i neakreditované) a informační aktivity naplňující účel ústavu, - publikační činnost naplňující účel ústavu, - reklamní a mediální aktivity podporující činnosti, které naplňují účel ústavu, - vzdělávací, osvětové, zájmové a volnočasové aktivity pro děti a mládež a širokou veřejnost, které naplňují účel ústavu, - k zajištění své vlastní činnosti může být ústav zakladatelem nebo společníkem obchodní společnosti nebo jiné právnické osoby, a to vždy s písemným souhlasem zakladatele.
