Zum Zwecke der Interessenvertretung führt das Netzwerk KvI Gespräche mit Vertreterinnen und Vertretern der Bundesministerien sowie mit Mitgliedern des Deutschen Bundestages. Ziel dieser Gespräche ist es, auf die besonderen Herausforderungen der Kinder inhaftierter Eltern aufmerksam zu machen und notwendige Änderungen in relevanten politischen und rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen anzuregen. Ein Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Verbesserung der Lebenssituation dieser Kinder durch einen systemübergreifenden Lösungsansatz, der Justizvollzug sowie Kinder- und Jugendhilfe gleichermaßen einbezieht. Hierzu sensibilisiert das Netzwerk politisch Verantwortliche und setzt sich für die bundesweite Implementierung tragfähiger Vernetzungsstrukturen ein.
