During the 2021-2022 school year, we worked with 7 volunteers and 1 staff person to help 32 high school students and 20 middle school students with homework, job skills and search, driving skills, and cultural and language acquisition. After school homework and enrichment program- we serve over 60 school aged refugee children, grades k-12, helping them complete homework tasks and engage in enrichment activities. All students are english language learners, and many have had interrupted or inadequate formal education in refugee camps. 5 part time staff and volunteers run this program. In cooperation with kennewick school district, we teach three sessions of ready for kindergarten classes each year to parents of pre-schoolers using age-appropriate curriculum. The classes equip parents with the knowledge and skills to be their child's first teacher in preparation for kindergarten.
