The Blind People's AssociationIndia (BPA) is the largest development organization for persons with disabilities in the country. It is known for developing a variety of need based programmes for the comprehensive development of the persons with visual impairment as well as persons of all categories of disability, namely hearing impairment, orthopedic impairment as well as mental retardation. Its activities range from prevention of blindness and disability, education, professional and vocational training, and resource mobilization, production of mobility, educational and rehabilitation and assistive devices. The Blind People's Association is the most active, functional and progressive organization. It has initiated and developed a variety of services on promotion of education, community based rehabilitation and provision of support services to the persons with disabilities. Today, BPA's institutional services cover almost any kind of support that a differently abled person may need. They cover education, vocational training, professional training, educational services and rehabilitation services and also aids of all kinds to people who may require them. However, the administration is also involved in a lot of community based work all over Gujarat for ensuring that people with disabilities have access to education, employment and all rehabilitation services. BPA has 14 rehabilitation and intervention centers in Gujarat and one in Rajasthan, which help kids with problems ranging from autism to multiple problems such as deafness and blindness. BPA trains the differently abled in improving their soft skills so that they can become valuable assets for working in today's competitive world.
