Der DBH-Fachverband nimmt durch Stellungnahmen, Vorträge, Seminare und Kongresse gezielt Einfluss auf kriminal- und sozialpolitische Themen. Über seinen Internetauftritte sowie Newsletter informiert der DBH-Fachverband über nationale und internationale Themen aus Sozialer Arbeit, Strafrecht und Kriminalpolitik. Der DBH-Fachverband und seine Einrichtungen veröffentlichen mehrere Zeitschriften und Magazine Der DBH-Fachverband bietet seit 1987 bundesweit Fort- und Weiterbildungen für die Bereiche Bewährungs- und Straffälligenhilfe sowie Täter-Opfer-Ausgleich an zu aktuellen Fragen der Sozialen Arbeit, Strafrecht und Kriminalpolitik. Auf Beschluss von Bundestag und Bundesregierung wurde das Servicebüro für Täter-Opfer-Ausgleich und Konfliktschlichtung 1992 als überregionale Zentralstelle zur Förderung des Täter-Opfer-Ausgleichs eingerichtet. Das TOA-Servicebüro will aktiv dazu beitragen eine Straftat konstruktiv zu bewältigen. Der Täter-Opfer-Ausgleich bietet für die Beteiligten die Gelegenheit, außergerichtlich und unter Beteiligung eines unparteiischen Dritten, eine befriedigende Regelung von Konflikten herbeizuführen.
