National Family Mediation is a charitable company limited by guarantee, the most common incorporated form for UK charities. It is registered with both Companies House and the Charity Commission, and must file annual accounts with both regulators. Directors (who are also charity trustees) have limited liability. Its Charity Commission registration number is 1074796.

You can verify National Family Mediation in several ways. First, search the Charity Commission Register at https://register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.uk/ - every charity registered in England and Wales appears here with its registration number, trustees, governing document, and filed accounts. Because this is a charitable company, you can also check its filings on Companies House (https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/). Second, check whether the charity's annual return and accounts are up to date - the Commission flags charities with overdue filings. Third, look for the Fundraising Regulator badge on the charity's website, which signals voluntary compliance with the Code of Fundraising Practice.

Contact National Family Mediation directly for current donation methods. UK charities typically accept online card payments, direct debit, and bank transfer. Many also use platforms such as JustGiving or Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). If you are a UK taxpayer, make sure to tick the Gift Aid box: it lets the charity reclaim 25p from HMRC for every pound you give at no extra cost to you. Higher-rate taxpayers can claim back the difference between basic-rate and their marginal rate through Self Assessment. Payroll Giving (Give As You Earn) lets you donate pre-tax through your employer.

Donations to National Family Mediation are eligible for Gift Aid if you are a UK income-tax or capital-gains-tax payer. Gift Aid adds 25% to your donation at no cost to you (the charity reclaims basic-rate tax from HMRC). Higher-rate and additional-rate taxpayers can also claim back the difference through Self Assessment or by adjusting their PAYE tax code. Gifts of shares, property, or land to charity are free of Capital Gains Tax and can be deducted from your income for Income Tax purposes. Legacy gifts (in your will) reduce the value of your estate for Inheritance Tax and can lower the IHT rate from 40% to 36% if you leave at least 10% to charity.

National Family Mediation is based in Exeter. The Charity Commission for England and Wales (CCEW) is the primary regulator. Scotland has its own regulator (OSCR), and Northern Ireland has the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland (CCNI). A charity registered with the CCEW may operate across the whole of the UK or internationally.

National Family Mediation was first registered in 1999, making it approximately 27 years old. UK charities must file an annual return with the Charity Commission to remain on the register. A long registration history generally indicates sustained operations and continuous regulatory compliance.

Took a very long time to arrange a meeting, around 4/5 months to get a meeting with the other side. Once the meeting starting the mediator has trouble controlling the other side and then seemed to side with her even though it’s made up with no evidence.

I don’t think the service is useful

I don’t think the service is useful. First of all I’ve had the impression that the mediator doesn’t keep on track about the previous meetings and we were talking about the same things over and over again. She even wrote the final proposal letter with some of the key points missing. In addition solicitors had no interest of using the document from the mediation and decided to draw their own. So I don’t understand what’s the point of the mediation at all.

★★★★ Friendly courteous and fair.

Chloe our mediator was very fair, courteous and informative. Did not have the impression that she was biased one way or the other and I feel she genuinely wanted to sort the situation out as quickly and painlessly as possible I found the portal for uploading documents for Financial review a bit cumbersome at times and this contributed to a delay in our case Out case did take a long time to resolve , but this was partly down to us taking a long time to respond. One of the cheaper mediation options , always clear what payments were due and how benefits would affect the cost. Which was very helpful when we both had limited resources available.

★★★★★ A positive experience

Wish I'd done mediation earlier and saved money on solicitors. Found the mediator Charlotte to be helpful and she explained things I didn't understand. Everything is now sorted and I can move on with my life.

Hopeless

Hopeless! First of all there isn't a local office as advertised on their Website, which was the whole reason we went with them in the first place! We have now had 2 appointments cancelled by them, which has delayed our process by months. You can not get through to them, you have to constantly leave messages and then wait for them to call back, or not call back as the case may be. I'm now at the point of not wanting to use them at all, but will need to pay all over again to start the process with another company and then the obvious time delay with starting all over again. This is extremely frustrating and so far has been a total waste of our time, money and patience.

★★★★★ Say what you mean, Do what you say

Came into this new mediation with no idea what was going to happen, Lady who helped up was great at being unbiased and was fantastic at being able to word things for us and gave us plenty of tips on how to try to communicate a certain way and not cause problems and a year later it has been fantastic and our problem has been 99% resolved now and now we know how to handle differences in opinions. From last year till our final mediation recently it has been nothing but positives.
