Threats to the safety of our building compelled the Board to fund much needed security upgrades inside and out of the building. New interior and exterior security cameras were installed, as was fencing with barbed wire along the north, west and south sides of the property. Hardware for doors was enhanced, the alarm system was upgraded, and multiple doors were re-keyed. These investments have deterred, a bit, the near constant occurrences of vandalism, trespassing, encamping, prostitution and drug use that have impacted our downtown neighborhood for decades, but accelerated dramatically during the COVID shutdown. While our organization did not employ event staff for the first half of the year, we did hire a House Coordinator to support the building and perimeter, and that hire has proved to be very useful to operations. The ability to spot check our location on demand by a dedicated staff person, combined with significant security upgrades provided essential defense against many of the most costly problems.Two additional improvements made to the House during the year included completion of Phase One Design for the HVAC upgrade (a pre-COVID project supported in part by a grant from the Santa Clara County Historic Grant program), and a cash investment in the high-efficiency air filtration systems we needed to bring our air quality into c
