The cohort consisted of 13 teachers and three mentor teachers from schools around Virginia who are committed to using the We the People curriculum in their classroom and who began their training with VA Civics either in 2019 or 2020. These teachers have maintained participation in the We the People program at 63 schools and over 6,000 students in Virginia. Scholar and mentor expenses for the year of training equal to $2,900, supplementary textbooks totaling $2,815, in-person event logistics totaling $2,282, and staff time and administration for running each event were supported by a $15,000 gift from a corporate charitable foundation. PROJECT CITIZEN PROGRAM:VA Civics partnered with the Virginia Commission on Civic Education to establish the Virginia Civics Coalition, a group of organizations and individuals committed to advancing effective and meaningful civic learning policies and practices.
