1.Výzkum a vývoj v oblastech rozvoje venkova, životního prostředí, energetiky a komunitního života. 2.Vypracovávání specializovaných studií, analýz a odborných stanovisek. 3.Vzdělávání a výchova veřejnosti, pěstování a prohlubování vztahu ke sportu, k přírodě a venkovským lokalitám. 4.Provádění advokační činnosti, ochrana lidských práv, rozvoj a ochrana kulturních kulturního dědictví ČR. 5.Zprostředkování a prohlubování spolupráce s příhraničními oblastmi v rámci Evropské Unie. 6.Předměty činnosti lze měnit rozhodnutím zakladatele nebo správní rady, jestliže se jejich poskytování ukáže nadbytečným, případně se projeví jako nezbytná další činnost.; Ústav vykonává následující doplňkové činnosti: a.konzultační, poradenská a informační činnost, b.propagační činnost, c.organizace a pořádání odborných a vzdělávacích akcí, konferencí, seminářů a workshopů s cílem prohlubování znalostí, předávání informací, novinek a zkušeností, d.prodej vlastních výrobků a služeb souvisejících s předmětem činnosti ústavu, e.osvětová činnost.
