We work to bridge gaps by recycling and up-cycling donated bikes, advocating for bicycle infrastructure, fostering a diverse, primarily volunteer-run team, and empowering women, children, people of color, immigrants, and all citizens of Johnson County through repair, care, and riding education. The coronavirus pandemic presented a unique challenge to how the Bike Library would continue to provide our services in 2020, requiring adaptation at every level. Six-month Bicycle Checkout: Patrons borrow refurbished quality bicycles by putting down a relatively low-cost deposit, with the option to buy them after six months. In 2020 the Bike Library checked out 159 bicycles, providing an affordable and accessible entry into bicycling, and a primary form of transportation for many, especially during a time when the demand for safe, outdoor activity and transportation was in great demand. This was accomplished through an appointment system and "curb-side" service model, in keeping with public health social distancing guidelines. 2.) As-is Bicycle Sales and Repair Clinics: Patrons can purchase a bike that needs work at a low cost, in addition to recycled used parts. In 2020 we sold 186 as-is bicycles as well as used bicycle parts needed for repairs. Many of those who buy as-is bikes return to utilize our maintenance and repair programs and classes. However, with the pandemic, classes were mostly discontinued in keeping with public health social distancing guidelines. Some "rent-a-bench" services were offered on an appointment basis and were utilized at least 50 times during the year. 3.) Free Bikes for Youth & Youth Bike Initiatives: In addition t
