Available to school and home school groups, the students, along with their teacher and trained parent helpers, spend 24 hours portraying characters of 1840's California and partake in the various trades, activities, and entertainment of the era. Discontinued after COVID-19. Each October "The Sutter's Fort Trapper's Camp" program (formerly River Trip) brings California history to life for one week in the city of Red Bluff, CA and one week in the town of Colusa, CA. During the Living History program, students and their classmates are transported back in time to an 1840's fur trapping camp along the Sacramento River. The class experiences four interpretive stations that make up the complex operations of the "Trapper's Camp". This program allows children to reenact the pioneer life in California before the Gold Rush. Discontinued after COVID-19. The Hands-on-History Program provides visitors with the opportunity to view the Sutter's Fort Collection which is the largest repository of original source Donner Party material in existence. Visitors can view replicas of these rarely seen original documents and hear the mysterious and haunting stories that have fallen through the cracks. Visitors are able to pack a wagon or wr
