I used the online chat service a few days ago, because I am able to write about my feelings better than speak them. I had already planned my suicide but I suddenly felt doubts and was desperate to speak to someone anonymously, and I'm really grateful I found telefonseelsorge. I don't speak German well but I was able to chat with them using Google translate without any problems. After our chat, my doubts about my plan increased to the point where I started feeling hopeful about my life for the first time in months, and the next day I told my family honestly what was happening to me. The person I chatted with was very supportive, listened to what I said without judging me, and helped me believe that it would be better to be honest. Conversations are supposed to end after 30 minutes, but they kept chatting with me after time was up.
