Founded in 1983, the Emirates Red Crescent is the country's principal relief and aid body and a recognised member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies since 1986. Beyond emergency humanitarian assistance, it carries out development and reconstruction projects in regions affected by conflict and disaster, including the Palestinian territories, Yemen, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. The authority also promotes a culture of volunteering and community service within the UAE.
