HERD is a South African elephant orphanage that rescues, rehabilitates and cares for orphaned or displaced elephants. It provides calves with specialised care and gradually integrates them into the Jabulani herd. HERD seeks to give orphaned elephants a fighting chance by providing specialised care, protection and acceptance within an elephant herd. It also works with local communities through education, opportunity creation and conservation awareness.
