本法人は、広く自然史科学の発展と普及にとり組み、大阪市立自然史博物館（以下、「博物館」と略す）の事業の進展に寄与することを通して、市民の自然に対する理解を深めることを目的とする。また、自然保護・自然環境保全に関する事業を行うことにより、環境の保全に寄与することを目的とする。
（１）友の会事業 本法人は、博物館を積極的に利用して自然と親しみ、学習しようとする人々に対して情報提供等を行うため、「大阪市立自然史博物館友の会」事業を実施する。 （２）ミュージアムサービス事業 博物館への来館者をはじめとする市民の学習意欲とさまざまなニーズに応え、自然史科学の普及を図るため、本法人は、物品、情報、サービスなどを提供する。 （３）ボランティア事業 本法人は、自然史科学の普及に寄与するボランティア事業を実施する。 （４）出版事業 本法人は、自然史科学の普及のために必要な書籍等を出版する。 （５）調査・研究受託事業 本法人は、自然史科学の振興発展のため調査、資料の収集・整理、研究事業等を受託する。 （６）普及教育事業 本法人は、自然史科学の振興普及のため普及教育事業（講習会・教育資料作成・シンポジューム・ワークショップ開催等）を実施する。 （７）自然保護・自然環境保全に関する事業 本法人は、自然保護と自然環境の保全のため「関西自然保護機構」事業（調査、研究、提言、助言、指導、啓発、研究助成、シンポジューム等の活動）を実施する。 （８）施設運営管理事業 本法人は、自然史科学の振興普及および自然保護・自然環境の保全に関する施設の運営管理事業を実施する。 （９）その他 本法人の目的の達成に必要と認められる上記以外の事業を実施する。
