MERCY Malaysia, formerly known as the Malaysian Medical Relief Society, was founded in 1999 by Dr Jemilah Mahmood, a Malaysian obstetrician-gynaecologist moved by the suffering of civilians during the Kosovo war. Established to give Malaysians a platform to engage in international humanitarian response, the organisation conducted its first mission to Kosovo in June 1999. It has since grown into one of Malaysia's leading humanitarian organisations, delivering medical and relief assistance in crisis zones worldwide.
