About Stichting Parenting Across Borders

Parenting across Borders (PaB) supports migrant parents in Utrecht during the first 1,000 days of parenthood. Through dialogue groups, we create a safe and inclusive space where parents can meet, share experiences, and build a support network. In this way, PaB strengthens both the self-reliance and collective resilience of migrant parents in Utrecht: we see that supported parents become more confident parents, who are better able to care for themselves, their children, and their communities. The first dialogue series was initiated in 2019 by a social worker, dialogue facilitator, and migrant mother in Utrecht. In 2020, PaB became a foundation, and since then more than 125 parents have participated in dialogue series and community gatherings. We organize dialogue series for …

Mission

What is our vision? We as parents face several challenges in our parenting roles. These challenges tend to be greater when we raise our children abroad. International parents have to discover their role as (new) parents in a foreign country, with less (to no) support from their social environment. Moreover, they often feel caught between the norms and expectations of their own culture and those of the country in which they live. Despite these challenges, little support is available to support these parents and help them increase their well-being. Parenting across Borders aims to create a world in which international parents experience adequate support from those around them and feel confident in their role as parents. What is our mission? Parenting across Borders is a social initiative that offers individual support to international parents, in their first 1,000 days of parenthood, in a dialogue group. Through dialogue, we want to offer international parents a safe space in which we create space for we a process of self-reflection and personal learning. Also, the dialogue group is a place where the new parents experience a sense of belonging to a community. Moreover, by meeting other parents and listening to their experiences, parents find recognition and also acknowledgement of the various challenges they face in raising a child in a foreign context. We believe that supported parents are more confident parents, who take better care of their inner selves, their children and their environment. Values that matter to us Respect: we respect the dignity of each individual and wish to promote and exercise mutual understanding in doing so. We act in a confidential manner. We show respect for everyone; regardless of origin, gender, religion, color, language, marital status, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic status, disability, political beliefs or any other distinctive characteristic. Honest and transparent: we act openly and transparently within our team, as well as with all beneficiaries of our foundation. Responsibility: We take responsibility toward the community we work with. Hope: We believe that hope is an essential driver/element in any transformation process. Humility: Every experience and perspective is respected and acknowledged. Our expertise lies in recognizing the different experiences brought to the dialogue process.

Stichting Parenting Across Borders is registered in the Netherlands. Stichting Parenting Across Borders has ANBI (Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling) status, so donations are tax-deductible. You can deduct gifts that exceed 1% of your threshold income (minimum 60 euros). Periodic gifts (committed for 5+ years) are fully deductible without threshold.

Stichting Parenting Across Borders is a Dutch foundation (stichting) - the most common legal form for charities and public-benefit organisations in the Netherlands. A stichting has no members, is governed by a board, and is established by notarial deed for a specific purpose. It is the only Dutch legal form that can hold ANBI (public-benefit) status without member oversight. There are about 250,000 stichtingen on file at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK), of which roughly 50,000 hold ANBI status with the Belastingdienst. It is registered with the Kamer van Koophandel (KvK), the Dutch Chamber of Commerce, with RSIN 861783542.

You can verify Stichting Parenting Across Borders's legal status in three ways. First, look up the RSIN directly on the Belastingdienst ANBI register: https://www.belastingdienst.nl/wps/wcm/connect/nl/aftrek-en-kortingen/content/anbi-status-controleren and enter 861783542. The result page confirms whether the organisation currently holds ANBI status - a prerequisite for tax-deductible donations in the Netherlands. Second, search the Kamer van Koophandel public registry at https://www.kvk.nl/zoeken/ - the KvK record shows the legal form (Stichting / Vereniging / Coöperatie), registered address, board composition (where disclosed), and the date of incorporation. Third, every ANBI is legally required by the publicatieplicht to publish on its own website: the policy plan, financial statements, an overview of activities, board composition, and remuneration policy. A working ANBI page with current financials is the strongest signal of legitimacy beyond the registry. If all three sources agree on name, address and ANBI status, the organisation is legitimate.

Contact Stichting Parenting Across Borders directly for current donation methods. Dutch charities typically accept iDEAL (the standard Dutch online-banking payment method), Tikkie payment requests, Bancontact for cross-border donors, SEPA bank transfer to the organisation's IBAN (account numbers starting with NL), and online payment processors (Mollie, Stripe). Many larger Dutch charities use platforms like Geef.nl, GeefSamen, Kentaa, and Pifworld for online fundraising. International donors can give via SEPA (the Netherlands is in the eurozone, so intra-EU transfers are cheap), PayPal, or GlobalGiving. For donations to count as a 'periodieke gift' - fully tax-deductible without a threshold - a written agreement (overeenkomst periodieke gift) committing for at least five years is required. Always confirm the recipient's RSIN and ANBI status before sending funds intended for the tax deduction.

As an ANBI, Stichting Parenting Across Borders is legally required to publish the following information on its own website, free of charge and without a login (the 'publicatieplicht' obligation under Uitvoeringsregeling AWR 1994 art. 1a): the policy plan, an overview of the past year's activities, the financial statements (balance sheet, profit-and-loss, explanatory notes), board composition with names, and the remuneration policy for directors and key staff. Larger ANBIs (turnover above €50,000) must also publish a fuller financial report using the Belastingdienst's standard ANBI publication form. If you cannot find these documents on the organisation's website, that is a red flag worth raising with the board before donating.
