Teen Challenge Willoughby House are a friendly lot with genuine interests in your problems. That said on the good points what I did not agree with was a strip search when arrived there. My problem has been drinking too much so it would have been unlikely for me to have drugs up you know where. Secondly, they have this unrealistic policy of all "residents" to share a room when there were many unoccupied rooms. In my case my room buddy snored so loudly through most of the night it dramatically effected the quality of my sleep. Then there was "Movie night" on a Saturday evening and YOU HAD TO WATCH THE MOVIE. This was a time I desperately wanted to have a bath and an early night. Look Teen Challenge I needed REST and NOT a military run approach. PLEASE Teen Challenge adopt a more softer, relaxed atmosphere and addicts will get better rather than this over the top regime

Teen Challenge is an exceptional ministry, but I’m perplexed after reading some reviews. It seems that some people are confusing it with a hotel experience when, in reality, it’s a rehabilitation program—essentially a boot camp. This distinction is clearly communicated to all residents prior to their arrival. Let’s be honest: nothing worthwhile comes easily. Teen Challenge is intentionally a challenging program, and that’s part of its effectiveness. If you’re looking for a vacation, you need to book a hotel instead, because Teen Challenge is definitely not one.

Teen Challenge Norwich is advertised as free, but residents are required to sign over their benefits and are given little or no access to their own money. Contact with family is often restricted in the first month, and the programme relies on prayer, strict structure, and compliance rather than individualised support.The environment is highly controlled and conformity-driven. Residents are frequently told that if they leave they will relapse, die, or that this is their only chance. This fear-based messaging keeps many people there. Questioning the system is not tolerated. I was told I had a “spirit of rebellion” simply for asking to access Christian books that were not part of their approved materials.Residents are required to work, both on site and in associated activities such as furniture collection, recycling, and gardening. This work is unpaid. Attendance at all prayers and services is mandatory, and personal time is heavily restricted. Living conditions can be difficult, with shared rooms and hygiene standards dependent on who you are placed with.These programmes appear designed for institutionalised individuals or those coming straight from prison and are poorly suited to functioning users who have worked, think independently, and have family responsibilities. Independence is often viewed as resistance.I left after one month after being refused permission to support my wife and children financially. Following this, I was treated unfairly. I was promised help to return home but was left at Norwich station with a ticket that only covered part of the journey.My advice to Christian families: faith alone does not guarantee safety or care. Research thoroughly and consider regulated alternatives that respect dignity, autonomy, and family involvement.
