How many foundations are there in Taiwan, and who registers them?
GiveRadar tracks 69 foundations and nonprofits in Taiwan. This is drawn from a foundations dataset, not a single official register. A Taiwanese foundation is a public-benefit legal person, approved by the competent authority and registered with the court under the Foundations Act.
Incorporated associations register separately, and there is no one national register combining every organization. The closest authoritative incorporation check is the Judicial Yuan's legal-person registration search.
What does foundation registration in Taiwan prove, and what does it not?
Registration establishes that a foundation legally exists, has an approved public-benefit purpose and governing instrument, and is subject to court and ministry supervision. That is meaningful legal and regulatory evidence.
It does not establish that the organization is effective, financially sound, independently evaluated or automatically tax-exempt. Registration is legal status, not a charity-quality rating, so treat a listing here as a starting point.
Are donations to Taiwanese nonprofits tax-deductible?
Often, within limits. Under Taiwan's Income Tax Act, an individual who itemizes may generally deduct donations to qualifying educational, cultural, public-welfare or charitable organizations, normally up to 20% of total income, with a compliant receipt.
The organization itself is not automatically exempt: qualifying non-sales income may be exempt while income from selling goods or services can remain taxable. Confirm the recipient qualifies before assuming a deduction, as special categories differ.
How do you check a Taiwanese foundation before you donate?
Confirm the foundation's incorporation through the court's legal-person registration announcements. A name in a dataset is a starting point, not proof of standing.
- Search the Judicial Yuan legal-person registration to confirm it exists.
- Check the competent authority's foundation disclosures for its filings.
- For associations, use the interior ministry's lookup.
- See GiveRadar's integrity score methodology for what each data point proves.
