It has been reported in the local newspapers that Brimhams Active willtemporarily be taking over from IHL in September 2024. Apparently someimprovements to Selby Leisure Centre have already taken place by this company there. NotablyBrimhams Active website prominently display their 'Safeguarding and Equality'policies as well as their stance to a legal duty of care for the customer's physicaland mental health and wellbeing and ensures that staff are fully aware of theimplications of such policies. One advert for a job reads : 'In carrying out theduties and responsibilities of this job, it is required thatstaff positively implement all current Brimhams Active Ltd’s policies andregulations, and Codes of Practice at all " I believe IHL is a an accreditedmember of Sport England who highly recommend the abovementioned policiesas ’good practice’ too. Worryingly I have not been able to find any references toany policies on SLC's website nor any signposting within the building. Havingexperienced intimidating behaviour in a pump session and witnessed othersbeing intimidated in zumba sessions, I have come to the conclusion that I had no other option but to resign mymembership from SLC as my experiences have deeply affected my emotionalwellbeing. It's a real shame as the choreography in the zumba and aqua zumba sessions is excellent. Recommendations for the abovementioned policies and for a specific safeguarding officer have been passed on to management at SLC. I can only hope that essential improvements will be made as soon as possible for the sake of the inclusivity and wellbeing of all the customers there.
