The National Federation of People with Disabilities in Namibia (NFPDN) was established in 1991 to advocate for the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and has carried out many projects over the following decades. It is an umbrella organisation of organisations of persons with disabilities, with members representing a variety of disability groups, including youth and women. Its advocacy has contributed to the National Policy on Disability of 1997, the National Disability Council Act of 2004, and a reserved seat in Parliament for disability representation. NFPDN's work also helped establish a Disability Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister and at the University of Namibia.
