Through community consultation in the early stages of this project, our original ideas began to transform into a creative project that was much more specific and significantly beneficial to the arts community in Alice Springs. In April 2023, we had a public callout for local creatives to apply to occupy this space for an extended period, using the Museum's history and its haunting physical space to inform new works, and new exhibitions. As part of the Residency, the museum provides: · Exhibition/performance spaces (indoor and outdoor). · Access to the WMoA Collection including the Museum s permanent exhibitions, library, buildings (including the Old Gaol) and grounds, archival material (consisting of documents, letters, objects, digital records, videos, publications, photographs and recorded interviews). · Assistance with research. · Support and assistance with Grant funding to finance a proposed project/residency. · Promotion and marketing via the Museum s Website and membership, and any other relevant channels. · Studio space The WMoA and Old Gaol is more than simply a place for visitors to browse and soak in culture.
