GiveRadar's Asia Charity Database (giveradar.com/asia-charity-database/) covers 230K+ Asian nonprofits across 12+ countries, sourced from official national registries. Top sources by record count: Japan 89,090 (NPO Portal), Nepal 58,483, Thailand 46,180, India 14,648 (a subset of NGO Darpan), South Korea 11,122, Bangladesh 2,809, Cambodia 2,209, Sri Lanka 2,003, Philippines 1,901, Malaysia 1,812, Indonesia 1,696, and Vietnam 496. Coverage is concentrated in Japan, Nepal, Thailand, and South Korea. Mainland China is not covered, and India is only a subset of its full register. Many Asian regulators publish only partial open data, so coverage varies by country - we represent each country at the depth its government registry currently makes available, and continue to expand as additional Asian open-data feeds become accessible. Each record carries up to 80+ normalized fields including legal name (in source script plus English transliteration where appropriate), registration number, country, address, founded year, financials (where source registries publish them), the GiveRadar Integrity Assessment (0-100, scoring registration, financial transparency, governance, contact availability, and data recency), per-charity news context for transparency, and contact details. Accessed via free web search, REST API (free 10 requests/day, Pro 99 USD/month for 10,000), or bulk CSV export (Enterprise). Published under Creative Commons BY 4.0.

Frequently asked questions

Why is GiveRadar's India count smaller than NGO Darpan's published total?
India's NGO Darpan portal publishes around 3 million registered NGOs, but only a subset is openly downloadable as bulk data. GiveRadar reflects what's currently importable from the public open-data feed. We continue to expand India coverage as additional NGO Darpan exports become available.
Which Asian countries are covered?
12+ countries, concentrated in Japan 89K, Nepal 58K, Thailand 46K, and South Korea 11K. India is a 14.6K subset of its full register. Smaller coverage for Bangladesh 3K, Cambodia 2K, Sri Lanka 2K, Philippines 2K, Malaysia 2K, Indonesia 2K, and Vietnam (about 500 INGOs). Mainland China is not covered, as it publishes no openly importable charity registry. North Korea and Macau are not covered either.
Is the data multilingual?
Yes. Charity names are stored in source script (Japanese kanji/hiragana/katakana, Korean Hangul, Devanagari for Indian/Nepali, Thai, Sinhala, Bengali, Khmer, etc.) plus English transliteration where appropriate. Categories are normalized to a unified English taxonomy with per-country mapping. Searches accept queries in source language or English.
How does GiveRadar assess each charity?
Every charity gets a 0-100 Integrity Assessment built from registration, financial transparency, governance, contact availability, and data recency, with a small penalty for automated red flags (high executive pay, stale filings, or bare-minimum disclosure). It is a research and verification signal, not a sanctions or AML screen. GiveRadar does not process donations; use it to research and verify a charity before you give.
Is the database free?
Yes. Web search free. REST API free tier 10 requests/day. Pro 99 USD/month for 10,000 requests/day. Enterprise adds bulk CSV export. CC-BY 4.0.
