A second check is program style: organizations that fund community-defined priorities tend to describe specific local partners, while vaguer appeals lean on imagery and urgency. Third, be careful with in-kind giving: unsolicited shipments of clothes or goods to remote communities often create costs rather than help, so favor organizations that state what they actually need.
