Der Bundesverband Soziokultur, ehemals Bundesvereinigung Soziokultureller Zentren, wurde 1979 als gemeinnütziger Verein gegründet. Mitglieder sind die jeweiligen Landesverbände aus 15 Bundesländern, in denen inzwischen rund 800 soziokulturelle Zentren und Initiativen in Deutschland organisiert sind. Vernetzt sind damit ca. 25.000 Akteure, darunter ca. 15.000 ehrenamtlich Engagierte, die in soziokulturellen Zentren Initiativen und Netzwerken eine vielfältige und vielschichtige Kultur- und Bildungsarbeit leisten. Zu den wichtigsten Aufgaben des Verbandes gehören die Koordinierung und Förderung der soziokulturellen Arbeit sowie die Vertretung ihrer Interessen gegenüber der Öffentlichkeit und den politischen Gremien. Die Vernetzung auf Bundes- und Länderebene gewährleistet Qualifizierung, Beratung, Austausch und Unterstützung sowohl für bereits existierende Zentren und Initiativen als auch für neu entstehende.
