この法人は、三段峡を中心とする太田川流域に暮らす人々が、里山の資源を活用し豊かなライフスタイルの構築に寄与する事を目的とする。
三段峡は、100年以上も前から癒しの場として特別名勝等の指定を受けるほどの観光名所でした。また、太田川も昔から流通に不可欠な路として活用され、物が上流から下流へ移動していました。しかし、現在観光地や流通の路だった山里は過疎が進み、川は危ないものとされ地域住民には近くにあるものの足を踏み入れにくい場所になってしまいました。そこで 三段峡開峡100年を目前に、平成27年6月に三段峡観光の再生を目的として「三段峡Re-Bornプロジェクト委員会」が設立され、翌年2月に「三段峡憲章策定ワーキンググループ」が設置、平成29年4月「三段峡憲章」が制定された。三段峡憲章を推進し三段峡や安芸太田町の歴史と自然史を研究し、観光と教育の振興に貢献し、持続する地域つくりに資する活動を目的に、三段峡－太田川流域研究会は、平成28年7月に設立、同年11月に法人登記されました。 私たちは「やっぱりここに帰ろっか」をキーワードに百年後もあなたにとっての『ここ』が子ども達に届き続くために活動します。 私達はフィールドの中で生態系を学び、自然と人とのかかわりを共に考え、一人ひとりの価値や、人と人との繋がり方を提案し続けます。主なフィールドは、国が文化財保護法に基づいて指定し電源開発等の人と自然の狭間に苦しむ歴史もある特別名勝三段峡で、環境保全と歴史文化の伝承・人材育成に取り組みます。 （三段峡－太田川流域研究会の取り組み） 当団体は、「100年間積み上げていく活動」を行い、「三段峡を知り、伝える」組織となり、資金や人的資源の獲得を目指し,「調べる」「伝える」「つなぐ」の3つを柱に事業を行っています。 「調べる」は三段峡の自然や歴史を調査・研究します。現在「三段峡史」を作成すべく資料と口述歴史の収集を行います。自然分野は専門家を招聘して鳥類・木本類・両生類などの調査をし、深入山では希少蝶類の研究と保全活動を行っています。 「伝える」は安芸太田町内の小学校3校、安芸太田中学校に対して授業を実施しし、市内の大学や子ども会などと協力して太田川流域に住む子ども達への教育活動も行っています。また町内で中学生がプログラム内容から考え伝えるさんけん自然塾を年4回実施し、伝える側の育成にも取り組んでいます。シャワークライミングなどアドベンチャーツアーの企画や実施も企業と連携して行い、三段峡の魅力を伝えています。 「つなぐ」活動は、町民同士はもとより、町外と町内の団体を結びつけるなど地域活性化に取り組んでいます。町内で活躍する人から話を聴き、仲間つくりを促す「あきおおたの楽しい100人」、町の長期総合計画を学びよりより町づくりを促す「あきおおた長期総合計画をよむ会」、話し合いの進行役を育てる「ファシリテーション勉強会」などを運営し、地域の会合をサポートしています。 （三段峡－太田川流域研究会の目指す未来） 「三段峡を野外博物館に」をテーマに、従来の観光から「体験と学び」の観光への変換を行います。安芸太田町内の子どもに対しては特に力を入れて「体験と学び」を提供し、安芸太田町を大好きな子どもを育てます。次の世代が今よりももっと町の未来に希望をもち、活躍する町をつくりたいと思います。町の豊かな暮らしが観光資源となり、来訪者が景観の美しさと合わせて安芸太田の自然・歴史・文化を楽しみにくる観光地になる未来を目指します。
