About

Turning Point works in Kenya to relieve poverty amongst children, mainly in the large slum of Kibera, Nairobi. We provide food, clothing, assist with access to education and basic health-care, and help with emotional and spiritual development. We work by invitation from the local slum community. Our income comes mainly from some supporting churches and a growing network of supporters.

Jo and Jon Parsons encountered children in central Kibera who were not being reached by larger relief organizations. After other organizations lacked the capacity to act, local and international NGOs encouraged them to establish the work themselves. They registered the UK charity in 2002 and moved to Kenya. Operations began on 3 March 2003 with John Kariuki, Rev. Shadrack Mulinge and Eunice Mulinge, serving porridge to seven children before developing an education programme.
