mencap is a amazing resource for people who either have learning disability, work with learning disability or have loved ones with learning disability etc.the information is very clear and there are easy read versions available.mencap also explain the difference between autism and learning disability, and the difference between learning disability and learning difficulty.unfortunately a lot of services in the UK and autistic people dont seem to realise autism is not a learning disability but like me -you can have both (i have classic autism with mild learning disability),or you can have one of them.mencap are constantly fihting for people like me and also our families and for staff who work with us,theyve got a fantastic official group based on the social network- health unlocked, which is ran by lovely people and used by lovely people.the mencap helpline is extremely helpful-i used the email version and was told a specialist woud have to work for me and itd be around 10 days to get an answer, which was fine by me as i had great hope in mencap-when i got ansered i was told so much information i found it difficult to take the list of easy read PDFs the specialist gave to me about an issue i was having and know what to do with it,there was to much for me to process.other than that,i absolutely love both the mencap website and mencap themselves as there so helpful-if only people woud use it and educate themselfs.

We rang the Mencap Charity shop in Godmanchester today to see if we could drop off some donations. I have done this numerous times before. When my partner turned up at the shop she was met by a member of staff by the door who was more or less pretty expressionless and one of those 'couldn't really be bothered' types. Nevertheless my partner explained that we had called ahead etc and asked if we could still leave our donations. The member of staff was once more far from enthusiastic or helpful. It then became apparent via a notice of the door that the shop was closing early due to 'technical difficulties'. Clearly all this member of staff just wanted to do was go home. I fully understand that these shops rely on charitable & volunteer time etc. However, I struggle to understand why such people volunteer their time only to be the rude and antithesis of help and support for the charity they apparently support. We will not be make any more donations to Mencap as a result.

As an ex participant of more2do which is part of mencap, its gone down hill the past few months, lack of support that was there before no longer in place it seems, Main office that needs to put things back as they were before and not interfere with personal relationships among participants as before and not take things away and deal with troublemakers. I was told by staff that they would sort my problem out with some troublemakers but when I went back nothing happened and things got much worse. Putting too many people with same problems in same place does not help things either.Topped with back stabbers, users, racial abuse and people breaking up relationships for their own interest I feel much better since leaving that place and my well being has improved vastly without their so called help.

East Kent mencap in Cliftonville Margate Kent is disgusting management, its disgusting how management deal with things,I have had a tenant there trying to attack me before too throwing around accusations, I'm glad I haven't got a supported living flat there, defo poor management, I'm fuming with the management there asking my fiancee to give out my mobile number without my permission and a manager and a woman from kcc saying nasty stuff about me behind my back not getting their facts right, there is a woman who still works there who I think should step down as management, they should get new managers, management treat my fiancee like a child and stick their noses into his finances and treat him like a child, its like we need permission to go on holiday, her and that woman from kcc should mind their own business and not stick their noses into tenants finances,as long as they pay all their bills and debts off they should mind their own business, I'm disgusted and angry with the management there and that woman from kcc especially as my name was brought into and nasty stuff was said about me,they should be fired from their jobs, this woman who works got East Kent mencap in Cliftonville Margate as management has also accused me of being a gold digger even though I pay back half the money for our holidays by direct debit and I treat him to Greggs and takeaways treat him on holiday and I give him money for his birthday and Xmas and I have increased the direct debit now I can afford to pay more, she has made false accusations about me when she don't even know me and what he chooses to do or offers to do with his money is his business and her and this woman from kcc shouldn't be sticking their noses into his finances or asking to see his bank statements anyway, she is bang out of order and she shouldn't be in her job, she's such a nasty woman and so is that woman from kcc, ever since he got money from his brother's will she has taken such a big interest in his money when though D
